Catawba County Confirms Fifth Case of Rabies This Year

Catawba County has confirmed the fifth case of rabies in the county this year. The Catawba County Services were notified by the North Carolina Public Health Laboratory notified the county a raccoon had tested positive for rabies. According to the Hickory Daily Record the raccoon was sent to Raleigh after a call came in about a dog who had potentially been exposed to a raccoon exhibiting abnormal behavior. The dog was up to date on his rabies vaccine and received his booster within 96 hours of exposure.
