A high-speed chase ended in a head-on collision on Connelly Springs Road yesterday. Troopers tried to pull over Christy Baker of Claremont on Mineral Springs Mountain Road in Burke County when she sped away. The chase crossed into Caldwell County and reached speeds over 100 mph. Baker’s car veered left of center on Connelly springs road and collided with an SUV driven by Cornelia Cornell. The News Topic reports the road was closed for two hours as crews worked on the scene.
