Multiple crashes plagued I-40 yesterday afternoon in Burke County, one even sending a firefighter to the hospital. The News-Herald reports it started when a SUV merged in front of a logging truck at around 12:35 p.m. near Exit 116. The logging truck as result spilled oil all over the roadway. Another accident 13 minutes later sent a firefighter to the hospital after being rear-ended. A third and final crash involved a Ford passenger car hit a Jeep SUV. No one was seriously injured.
