Rare Silver Fox Spotted in Lenoir

Quite a surprise yesterday, a rare silver fox was sighted near the MLK Center in Lenoir yesterday, reported by the News Topic. Officer Jon Kiger of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, who came to Lenoir to investigate, said that the fox is technically a silver phase red fox, or a red fox with dark-colored, silver and black fur, which he has never seen before. Kiger said that the fox, which was curled up in a patch of woods, did not appear to appear to be sick, which was one concern about the animal. Wildlife officials stated they will not be moving the fox since it poses no threat, and warns the public to leave it alone. However, city officials have taped off the playground near the fox out of caution.
