Men save boy from drowning

New information about a rescue last week that saved a 6 year old boy in Alexander County.  The Sheriffs Office reports that Workers remodeling a home were among citizens involved in the rescue of a child who had fallen into Lake Hickory  Three men across the cove that were working on remodeling a lake house heard the child screaming for help,  One of the men,  Scott Lingerfelt,  jumped into the water fully clothed and began swimming toward the child.  Lingerfelt swam approximately 40 yards to reach the child. At the time, the water temperature was believed to be 45-50 degrees. Another man called 911.  The child’s brother helped to pull the six-year-old from the lake, where he was then carried to Emergency Services. The child was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center, where he was evaluated.  Those involved in the rescue will be recognized by Sheriff Chris Bowman next Tuesday at the Sheriff’s Office.
