Due to lack of funding to pay employees, the new North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics scheduled to be built in Morganton will be postponed a year. The first group of 150 high school juniors will now move in in August 2022. The school, which will be located near the NC School for the deaf, had received nearly 81 million dollars for construction, but due to a budget disagreement between the Governor and legislative leaders, would not have enough to begin hiring and paying faculty and operations staff.
