Deputy Cleared in Fatal Shooting

A Caldwell County deputy involved in a fatal shooting in April has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the District Attorneys Office.   The deputy responded to a suspicious person call on Miller Hill Road in Lenoir where he encountered 28 year old Timothy Darryl Sides Jr., in the roadway.  According to reports, a confrontation occurred and Sides was shot and killed.

The District Attorneys Office says Following a review of the findings by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation there was no evidence of criminal misconduct on the part of Deputy James Curtis, and his use of force in the death Sides was justified.

The deputy was placed on administrative leave pending findings of the investigation but has returned to active duty.
