The coronavirus continues to be deadly across the Catawba Valley area. Burke County reported its 25th virus related death on Tuesday and Catawba County recorded its 17th death. Meanwhile, the number of new cases continues to climb. 38 new cases were reported in Catawba County, Burke County had 41 new cases, and 33 new cases were reported in Caldwell County.
Caldwell confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak at Shaire Center, an assisted living facility in Lenoir. The center has had two employees test positive. Shaire has tested all of their residents and staff and is working closely with the Health Department to stop the spread of the virus in their facilities.
A Burke County Court employee has tested positive for Coronavirus but the courthouse does remain open for business. A dropbox for filings is located outside the courthouse to limit foot traffic inside.
