Lenoir Man Wants Verdict Overturned

After pleading guilty to murder in 2002, the Lenoir News Topic reports that David F. Hurt, 51, wishes to withdraw that plea. He has already served 19 years for the killing of Howard Nelson Cook, who was found dead at his home back in 1999. In January, Hurt filed a motion that questions how the DNA evidence had been handled in his case. Judge Daniel A. Kuehnert found that there had been no mistakes in terms of the handling of DNA samples and that Hurt’s request went against his own testimony.
