On Wednesday, January 11, a fatal collision occurred in Wilkes County on US 421 near Mount Pleasant Road. A Ford Fusion was traveling west on US 421 and struck a pedestrian who was walking westbound in the roadway. Hayden Travis Eller, the pedestrian, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Elon Horton, the driver of the Ford Fusion, was not injured. During the on-scene investigation, no charges are expected.
