The North Carolina Department of Justice warns of EBT Card Scams

Residents of North Carolina are being warned about an increase in EBT card skimming and cloning scams. The North Carolina Department of Justice has reported that criminals are attaching skimming devices to card readers in order to steal personal information and EBT card benefits. To protect yourself from EBT card skimming, the Department of Justice recommends that you check your account balance regularly using the EBT Edge mobile app or by visiting https://www.ebtedge.com/. You should also be on the lookout for any errors or charges you do not recognize. Before using any card reader, make sure to check for any alignment issues. If something looks suspicious, it’s best to be on the safe side. If you suspect EBT card skimming, report the issue immediately and freeze your EBT card. Call the EBT Call Center at 1-888-622-7328 to request a new card. You should also contact your local law enforcement agency, such as your local police department or sheriff’s department, and notify the merchant where the skimming occurred.
