Sex Offender Charged with Additional Crimes

James Jason Perscola, a 40-year-old man from Taylorsville, was arrested by authorities in Gaston County last Thursday (March 2) for a felony sex offender warrant filed by the Taylorsville Police Department. Perscola was already on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry due to a 2018 conviction in Caldwell County for sexual activity by a substitute parent or custodian. Despite registering with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office as a sex offender and being required to do so for a minimum of ten years, Perscola now faces additional felony charges in Alexander County for failure to report a new address as a sex offender and probation violation out-of-county. He also faces misdemeanor drug charges. Currently being held at the Alexander County Detention Center under $150,000 secured bond, Perscola had a District Court appearance scheduled for today (March 6) and another for April 3, with a Superior Court appearance set for April 24.
