HPD Searching for Chanceler Johnson


The search is on for the driver of the motorcycle involved in a fatal police chase on Sept. 8. Hickory Police announced that the suspect is 24-year-old Chanceler Timothy Johnson and warrants have been obtained for his arrest. Johnson is charged with two counts of felony elude arrest in motor vehicle causing death. A Hickory Police officer pursuing Johnson on Sept. 8 collided with another vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 70 and 13th Street SW. The minivan driver, 38-year-old Cynthia Nicole Lail of Hickory died at the scene and her son, 12-year-old Michael Lail, died on Sept. 10 at the hospital.
Investigators believe Johnson to be traveling in a silver Hyundai Sonata with the license plate number KER-1082. He may be in the company of Cheyene Faith Raines, 21. Anyone with information of Johnson or Raines’ whereabouts is asked to call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
