Fatal Collision in Catawba County Due To Heavy Rain

Claremont– On Thursday, September 26, at approximately 8:10 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Boggs Road near Hunsucker Drive.  During heavy rain conditions, a 2008 GMC Acadia traveling west on Boggs Road crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2022 GMC Yukon.

The driver of the Acadia, Lyndsey Nicole Gaddis, 32, of Catawba, was transported by EMS to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.  Two child passengers were transported to area hospitals.   A 4-year-old child succumbed to her injuries.  A 12-year-old child is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Yukon, Tiffany Miner Sipe, 34, of Claremont, was transported by EMS to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.  Two child passengers were transported to area hospitals.  A 2-year-old child is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. A 4-year-old child received non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision.  Possible charges are pending upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office.  Boggs Road was closed in the area for approximately 2 hours during the on-scene investigation.
