Andrew Lee Fox of Morganton was arrested after being released from the hospital following a high speed chase on Monday. According to the Morganton News Herald NC Highway Patrol was conducting a checkpoint on June 19th when Fox increased his speed as he got closer. Fox continued traveling eastbound with officers pursuing until he reached a bridge crossing Crooked Creek. Fox jumped into the creek and was followed by an officer. When he made it to shore he appeared to have swallowed a small bag of crystal-like substance that appeared to be methamphetamine. He was taken to the hospital a released a few days later and was served with charges. His bond was set at $138,000.
