Blowing Rock Claims Caldwell County Owes it Money

The town of Blowing Rock claims Caldwell County owes it almost $200,000 after a resort has mistakenly been Caldwell County a 3 percent occupancy tax for 10 years. The Gideon Ridge Inn was annexed by the Town of Blowing Rock in 2008. According to the Lenoir News Topic the inn was supposed to pay the town of Blowing Rock 6 percent in occupancy tax, but had been splitting the amount between both the town and Caldwell County. Blowing Rock is only asking Caldwell County to pay back half of the money but the county has refused to pay. Randy Church the Caldwell County Commissioner, believes the issues should be between the town and the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce who received the money from the occupancy tax.
