Renovation Plans for GFMS Declared Shovel Ready

The renovation plans for Granite Falls Middle School have been declared shovel ready by the consulting firm hired by the county to prepare them. The plans were presented the Caldwell County Board of Education on Monday. According to the Lenoir News topic the project is expected to cost around $24 million, the board hopes to fund the project with a $15 million state grant and county tax revenue that is designated for school construction. Work will take place on the school in five phases and the school will be open during construction. If the state grant comes through the school system could begin looking for contractors as early as September and construction could be finished by 2021.
