The North Carolina Department of Revenue is warning of criminals posing as tax agents collecting payments. The News Topic reports that the NCDOR will not contact a taxpayer in person unless the agency has first attempted to provide a notification via mail. The NCDOR will also never initiate conversations via text message, social media, or email to demand immediate payment.
