A new scam seeks to scare people into paying money to avoid trouble with immigration authorities or the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The scammers use what is called “spoofing” technology to make it appear to caller ID that they are calling from phone numbers that belong to federal authorities. The News-Topic reports no one from the federal government, law enforcement or another government agency will phone you to threaten you with arrest.
