A Lenoir couple escaped their burning home on Bradford Mountain Road early Friday morning thanks to a Caldwell County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Lenoir Police Officer who spotted the flames just after 3am. Smoke detectors in the home worked but didn’t wake Daniel and Sarah Clark. The officers were able to wake them and get them out of the home uninjured. Station Two Fire Captain Greg Cannon said the fire started in the basement due to an electrical short and traveled up a wall into the attic. The home was a total loss. Several dogs were saved but 3 cats and a parakeet are believed to have perished. American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
