The NC Hwy Patrol says a driver fell asleep behind the wheel causing an accident that killed A 76-year-old woman Sunday on U.S. 64 just outside of Statesville. Troopers say a Charlotte man was driving North when he fell asleep and struck another car driven by Lois Crotts of Stony Point. Crotts died at the scene. The other driver was transported to Wake Forest Baptist health for his injuries. Charges are pending.
