This year marks the 233rd anniversary of the signing of the U. S. Constitution by our framers or forefathers on September 17, 1787. It is also the 65th year that Constituion Week has been observed. At Noon on September 17th the Tucker’s Barn Chapter will host a short program with the highlight being the reading of a Constitution Week Proclamation by Lenoir Mayor Joe Gibbons. Social distancing will be observed and attendees are asked to wear a mask or shield. Our theme that day is “We the People.”
At 4 p.m. that day some members of Tucker’s Barn will be gathering before the historic bell that sets in front of the Caldwell Heritage Museum. All individuals, schools and students, churches and congregants, organizations and businesses, fire and police departments, everyone – ring bells to celebrate this historic signing and the freedoms granted us therein. Ring once or ring 13 times, one for each colony in existence at that time. The ringing of the bells is being done simultaneously across our great nation.
