Valdese Mayor’s Race

The Burke County Board of Elections voted 3-2 recently to allow mayoral candidate Jim Jacumin to remain on the ballot for Valdese.  The decision was appealed to the North Carolina Board of Elections by Steve Kiddy.  At issue was residency, as Jacumin purchased a home in Valdese in June but has lived in Connelly Springs for many years.  He said he wanted to be closer to town due to his interests there and to run for mayor.  The state board is expected to make a decision on Friday.
