A fire damaged the basement of a house in Lenoir and left a family homeless. The fire started yesterday morning near the water heater of a house on Vance Street. The News Topic reports Mercedes, Jose, and Daniel Cortez were all home at the time. Firefighters are still investigating the fire’s cause.
