On April 30, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m. the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a breaking and entering
at 6443 US 64, Morganton. The suspects fled before the homeowner and deputies arrived. Deputies then received an
additional call of a breaking and entering at the same location on May 1, 2020, at approximately 6:30 a.m. The
homeowner arrived and found Jennifer Brooke Laws exiting the basement door. After further investigation, it was
determined that Jennifer Laws was the same suspect from April 30, 2020, and that she had been accompanied by
Thomas Ray Laws. Jennifer Laws arrested and transported to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office. She was issued a
$50,000 secured bond with a first appearance court date of 05/06/2020. Thomas Laws was arrested at a later date and
issued a $5,000.00 secured bond.
On April 24, 2020, Jennifer Laws had been arrested by Burke County deputies and charged with multiple felony charges
involving two stolen vehicles of furniture recovered at her residence. Laws had been bonded on those charges and was
arrested for the additional charges above.
