Unemployment Rate Falls
The overall unemployment rate for the Hickory region fell in October to 6.1%. Caldwell County’s rate for the month fell from 7.5% to 6.6%, while Burke County fell to 5.7% and Catawba County is now at 6.2%.
Covid Numbers
Catawba County Public Health reported 2 Covid 19 associated deaths on Thursday. There are currently 70 people hospitalized in Catawba County. In Burke County there are 15 hospitalized with Covid 19. Caldwell County reports 26 hospitalizations as
Drug Arrest
Felony drug charges were brought against Ryne Joseph Hartung, 23. He was arrested by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. Felony possession of schedule 2 controlled substance is the charge. Hartung is in jail in Morganton
Christmas Gifts
This holiday season the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office is helping kids. $4,000 was raised during their annual fundraiser. Christmas gifts will be given to the children in vulnerable families this year from the department.
