Proposed Election Bill

A press conference is planned for 10am today in Morganton.  Several municipalities are opposing a bill in the North Carolina Senate that would move those elections and school board elections, to match national and state races where voter turnout is significantly higher.  Leaders in Morganton, Connelly Springs, Valdese and others oppose the change, citing it would cause local elections to become lost in the flood of partisan races among other concerns.  Senate Bill 288 was filed by Senator Warren Daniel.  It would only effect Burke County and would not be subject to a veto by the governor.
