A fatal wreck occurred Thursday afternoon on I 40. Marcus Deal 34, died after hitting a parked tracker trailer that was off the side of the interstate near mile marker 102 in Morganton. It was in the westbound lane. It is unclear why Deal ran off the road. The medical examiner indicated there were no signs of impairment or cellphone usage. Deal was not wearing a seat belt. Salem, West End, Morganton Department of Public Safety, Burke County React, Burke County EMS and the North Carolina Hwy Patrol all responded.
