A new candidate is running for mayor in Rutherford College. Yates Jensen Jr has announced he is running as a write in this fall. He is a former two term town councilman and mayor pro tem. He did not seek reelection in 2017. Jensen is a teacher and basketball coach at Draughn High School. He said he decided to run as a write in after Mayor Gary McClure was taken off the ballot due to a residency challenge. Michael Duncan is the only candidate on the ballot.
