Heavy damage was caused by fire and a deceased dog was found in Hickory. Firefighters responded to a structure on 22nd Ave Place SE late Wednesday. No people were in the residence, and no one was injured. The Red Cross is assisting the residents. The Hickory Fire Department and Catawba County EMS responded. The fire marshal’s office has determined the cause as smoking related.
