A Burke County man pled guilty to assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and speeding.  Through a plea deal Richard Carpenter was sentenced to 24 months’ probation and 96 hours of community service.  The charges were all misdemeanors.  The incident involved a traffic stop in 2019, where carpenter hit officer Joseph Jones with his car door and after a struggle hit his neck and head causing a stroke.  Jones has permanently lost feeling in one arm and one leg.  Jones said “I forgive him because I know my God”
