Local railroads will receive grant funds for improvements. Alexander Railroad Company will receive $218,660 for upgrades to crossties and track improvements. Caldwell County Railroad which serves Catawba, Burke and Caldwell counties will receive $73, 125 for track alignment and crosstie upgrades. The funds are from the NCDOT’s Freight Rail and Rail Crossing Safety Improvement program.
