An $850,000 grant was awarded to Valdese. The Rural Transformation Grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce will be used to renovate the Old Rock School. Most improvements will address accessibility needs for the Americans with Disabilities Act. It will also bring a new parking lot to the west end of the building and replace the front parking lot with a grassy area among other improvements.
Grants were recently awarded from the Rural Infrastructure Authority. Locally the town of Hudson was awarded $120,000 to be used for Harmony Timberworks creating 15 jobs under the vacant building category. Burke County was awarded over $377,000 for a sewer extension at Burke Business Park. The space will be used by Unix Packaging, a beverage company intending to create 65 new jobs.
