LENOIR – A fire engulfed a small yellow house and claimed the life of an elderly woman as well as her two dogs. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze as thick smoke billowed out of the frame of the house located along Central Drive in Lenoir on Monday, August 29. The Lenoir Fire Department was alerted to the early afternoon blaze around 12:50 p.m.
Kicks 103.3’s own JP Morgan, host of the morning show “Morgan in the Morning,” was on scene as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
“There were emergency vehicles everywhere, smoke billowing out every window and out from under the roof. It was a big, hot fire mess,” said Morgan talking about arriving on scene.
Lenoir Fire Department Cpt. Chris Jacobs said firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within about 10 minutes. The NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was asked to investigate the fire as part of protocol due to the fatality. According to Captain Jacobs, the fire reportedly started in the garage. The Lenoir Fire Department and Police department were on scene as SBI agents spoke with a witness. Based on the investigation, there was no suspicious activity found and the cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined, according to Cpt. Jacobs.
