LENOIR – While some counties may be considering increasing taxes, Caldwell County has found a way to help a few property owners save money.
Local government agencies that participate with FEMA’s Community Rating System has the potential to pass a reduced floodplain insurance premium rate to resident property owners.
For over two decades the Caldwell County Planning Department has voluntarily completed requirements to participate in the FEMA program. Their participation in the program passes down a 5% savings on floodplain insurance premiums to 76 properties in unincorporated areas of Caldwell County. Caldwell County announced on Tuesday, August 30 that Caldwell County Planning Technician Kim McGee recently satisfied FEMA’s requirements, continuing the tradition.
The FEMA Community Rating System aims to encourage floodplain management, prevent or mitigate flood damage, and reinforce the insurance aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program.
