Monkeypox has been identified in Caldwell County, according to a Caldwell County Public Health document shared late Friday afternoon. A county document stated that the individual is in isolation and attempts are being made to identify people who may have had contact with the individual.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services monkeypox surveillance data website as of September 2, there were 346 cases statewide, and 11,420 vaccines have been administered. Because Caldwell County was not originally identified as a high priority county, it currently does not have vaccines. However, other vaccines are available through Watauga and Wilkes counties’ health departments.
