CATAWBA COUNTY – North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated a single vehicle fatal collision in Catawba County on Startown Road near Settlemyre Bridge Road on Friday, Sept. 9.
According to a press release, a 2017 Dodge Charger being driven by twenty-five-year-old Tyoun Jason Martise Shuford of Newton was traveling south on Startown Road, when it ran off the road to the right in a curve, overcorrected, crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the road and overturned. Shuford was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and according to the report, excessive speed may have been a contributing factor.
