Phone Scammers Impersonating Lincolnton Sheriff’s Office

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to receive complaints from people who have been called by scammers.  The scammers are disguising their caller ID as either a local number or as the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.  The Department received four calls from the scammer.  The fourth call and was told that she had missed a Federal Court date and was going to be arrested if she didn’t post a $2,800 cash bond. The caller used the name of an actual Lincoln County Officer.  The scammer told them to meet at the Lincolnton Food Lion and became frustrated and hung up on the would-be victim.  The Sheriff’s office wants to make it publicly known that they do not accept money in order to cancel a warrant or an order for arrest. All warrants are served in person and not by phone. Citizens should not provide any personal identifying information over the phone or purchase any money cards or exchange any money in reference to such calls.
