Hickory Police Chief Thurman Whisnant announced that he plans to retire on January 31st, 2023 after 30 years of service. Chief Whisnant has served the community greatly during his time as a law enforcement officer. According to the Hickory Police Department, Hickory has experienced some of the lowest crime rates in recent history, with record-setting years in 2019, 2020, and 2021, which had the lowest numbers of indexed crimes since 1995.
