The Hickory City Council held its regular session on Tuesday, January 17th, where they approved minutes, second readings, and the consent agenda. The council also recognized outgoing councilman David Williams for his service to the city. Williams had been serving as the Ward 4 Alderman since 2017 but had previously announced his resignation from the seat. The council discussed the process of replacing Williams and announced that they will be accepting letters of interest in the near future. The council also passed a voluntary contiguous annexation of property owned by East Coast Builders, Inc. located at 2069 25th Street Drive NE. In addition, a proclamation was presented to the Lenoir-Rhyne University Triathlon Team for their win in the NCAA DII National Championship. The Hickory Firefighters also received special recognition from Chief Matt Hutchinson during the meeting. Finally, members were appointed to various boards and commissions.
