On January 11, 2023, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible sexual assault of a child by an adult. An investigation was launched, and after interviewing several people, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Larry Eugene Epley, a registered sex offender. Epley was taken into custody without incident and held in the Burke County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
