On Friday, January 27, a 15-year-old student in the Newton-Conover City School System was discovered with a loaded weapon on the Newton-Conover High School campus. A .40 caliber Glock handgun with an extended magazine and marijuana were found on the student. The student was taken to the Newton Police Department and turned over to Juvenile Services. As a result, a juvenile petition was issued for possession of a firearm on school property and possession of marijuana. The student is currently in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice and was scheduled to appear in court on February 3. This investigation is ongoing and police are asking for anyone with additional information to come forward by contacting the Newton Police Department at 828-465-7430.
