Burke County Superior Court recently saw a dramatic twist in a fatal shooting case from 2018. David Andrew Barnes, 36, of Morganton, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection to the incident. The altercation between Barnes and the victim, Roger Dewayne Hoglan, 49, ended in Hoglan’s death on August 15, 2018. The incident began when Hoglan backed a vehicle over Barnes’ foot, causing him injury. As a result of his plea, Barnes will face a mandatory prison sentence as a felon. His sentencing is scheduled for March 27.
