The Long View Fire and Police Departments shut down roads in the vicinity of 30th Street Place N.W. between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue N.W. due to a hazardous materials spill. According to Long View Town Clerk Heather Minor, the incident took place at Maple Springs Laundry on 30th Street Place N.W. around 10 a.m. The spilled substance was hydrogen peroxide, which was being filled into a tank by a tanker truck at the time of the accident. Fortunately, the spill was promptly contained and the scene was cleared at noon with no reported injuries or threat to public safety. Apart from Long View Fire & Police, the Hickory Fire Department, the Catawba County Hazmat team, and other agencies were present at the scene. The Town of Long View also reassured that the water is safe to drink.
