Patton High School Band Director Chad Higdon is the latest recipient of the prestigious Award of Excellence from the Northwest District of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association. Higdon was recognized at the recent All District Honor Band Clinic for his exemplary work in music education. In the 43 years since the Award of Excellence was established, only 17 high school band directors in the Northwest District have been honored with the award. Burke County has had the distinction of having three of those recipients, Kathryn Siphers, Linda Noe and Wynn Justice.
