Frye Regional Medical Center has introduced automated breast ultrasound services, making it the only healthcare organization offering this screening option in the Catawba Valley region. The Automated Breast Ultrasound System (ABUS) is a non-invasive examination used alongside mammography for women with dense breast tissue, which affects around 40% of women in the US. ABUS can see through dense breast tissue and significantly improves cancer detection compared to traditional mammography.
