A Lenoir woman, 82-year-old Virginia Stines Shew, was killed Friday afternoon when the vehicle she was riding in crashed into a bridge railing on Abington Road in Caldwell County. The driver of the vehicle, 84-year-old James Cecil Shaw of Lenoir, was transported to the hospital by helicopter. The road was closed two hours while officers investigated.
