Thunderstorms in the Catawba Valley late Saturday caused flooding, downed trees, closed roads and power outages throughout the region.
The body of a 49-year-old Hickory woman was found Sunday in Alexander County near Dover Church Road after the vehicle she was in was swept away by rushing waters late Saturday. According to reports, the other passenger in the vehicle was found clinging to a tree by Alexander County Rescue.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg estimates that 3 to 6 inches of rain fell in parts of Alexander, Burke and Caldwell counties during Saturday’s storms.
