Alexander Getting $5.9M From Settlement

Alexander County will receive more than $5.9 million in funding over 18 years from the North Carolina Opioid Settlement from 2021. The national settlement totaled $26 billion, with $750 million awarded to North Carolina from litigation against several pharmaceutical distributors and manufacturers for their role in the opioid epidemic.
According to an Alexander County news release, the funding could increase as additional litigation is settled. The funds can only be used for strategies that address the negative impacts that opioid use has had on local residents. To date, Alexander County has received $425,822 and is expected to receive $811,663 in fiscal year 2023-2024.
