Free IDs Available Through Board of Elections

Voters will be asked to show photo ID in North Carolina, starting with the municipal elections this fall. Registered voters who do not already have an acceptable identification card for voting can now go to their county board of elections office to get a free ID.
No special documents are needed. Voters will provide their name, birthday and the last four digits of their Social Security number, and have their photo taken. The free voter photo ID will include the voter’s photo, name and registration number. For more information, visit the State Board of Elections website at ncsbe.gov.
